HOW DID THE SHETLS DISAPPEAR?

How to understand the past not only with the mind, but also with the heart?

Service Description

Title of the education: HOW DID THE SHETTLAS DISAPPEAR? Age group: Recommended for students from grade 5 Duration: 1.5-2 hours How to understand the past not only with the mind, but also with the heart? This education invites students, together with museum educators, to try to understand one of the most painful pages of 20th century history, telling about the Holocaust in Lithuania. Using the fates of people who lived in the town of Šeduva, the education takes place through the museum galleries - telling about the vibrant world of the interwar shtetl, full of inspiring examples of community and work, and ordinary, but special people. This unique world was destroyed forever in the tragic summer, autumn and winter months of 1941. During the session, participants will learn how the Jewish community of the shtetl lived before World War II – what traditions it cherished, what professions it was engaged in, how it communicated with the ethnic groups living nearby, nurtured the town and resolved community issues. Using real photographs, personal stories and authentic testimonies, students will follow in the footsteps of the people who once lived in the shtetl during their education – from life to death, and will encounter questions that invite reflection. During discussions, film excerpts and reflection activities, we will discuss not only the historical context, but also its connections with the present, and we will also talk about the rescuers of the Jews and the values they embodied – courage, citizenship, compassion and responsibility for their actions. During the session, general competencies are developed: cognitive competence, cultural competence, competence of citizenship and moral awareness, competence of critical thinking.
