On June 10–11, Dr. Jolanta Mickutė, Head of the Museum’s Education Department, presented the Lost Shtetl Museum at three events in London and Leeds, United Kingdom.
One of the events took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the United Kingdom during the 15th annual Litvak Days. This year’s theme, “Memory,” brought together historians, public figures, and members of the Jewish community for discussions on the history, remembrance, and heritage of Lithuanian Jews. During the event, the Lost Shtetl Museum was introduced alongside Prof. Saulius Sužiedėlis’s book Crisis, War, and the Holocaust in Lithuania. The presentation featured Prof. Antony Polonsky, and the discussion was moderated by Dr. Darius Staliūnas.
Two additional events were held in Leeds - one with the local Jewish community and another at the University of Leeds. The sessions were moderated by Paul Berwin of the Leeds Jewish Representative Council, Dr. Eva Frojmovic, Head of the Jewish Studies Programme, and Prof. Jay Prosser of the University of Leeds. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the museum’s exhibition, activities, and mission to preserve and promote the history of Lithuania’s shtetls.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the United Kingdom, the Leeds Jewish community, the University of Leeds, and all event participants for their warm welcome, meaningful conversations, and shared commitment to preserving historical memory.
