As Lithuania and Ukraine prepare to commemorate the upcoming 85th anniversary of the Holocaust, a delegation from the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center visited Lithuania. During their four-day visit, the delegation familiarized themselves with the work of Lithuanian memory institutions, research on Holocaust history, and practices of memorialization.

We had the honor of welcoming our colleagues to the Lost Shtetl Museum. The Center’s director Roza Tapanova, her deputy Oleksiy Moroz, and project curator Mariia Mizina explored the museum’s exhibition, which tells the story of Lithuanian Jews and their lives in shtetls, their culture and traditions, and the tragic fate of these communities during the Holocaust.

During the visit, discussions focused on the museum’s activities, educational programs, and contemporary approaches to telling the story of the lost Jewish towns. The delegation was introduced to how the museum, through interactive exhibitions and research, seeks to reconstruct the history of shtetl life and preserve this memory for future generations.

We thank our guests for the meaningful and mutually enriching time spent together.
