The Museum’s First Year: Special Tours and Celebrations
Updated: Sep 21
The first birthday of the Lost Shtetl Museum was filled with stories, encounters, and special moments. Over the course of its first year, the museum has welcomed more than 100,000 visitors, bringing the history and stories of the Jewish shtetls of Lithuania to audiences from near and far.
To mark this special milestone, we celebrated with a weekend of activities. Over two days, the museum hosted both regular and theatrical guided tours with actors, offering visitors a new way to experience our stories – bringing them to life through performance and storytelling.
We were also delighted to welcome special guests from abroad. The museum hosted Dariusz Stola, Director of the POLIN Museum, and we were glad to meet, exchange ideas, and share experiences. We also welcomed Dr Thomas Sprecher, a representative of the Swiss charitable foundation YouthAid Foundation, which initiated the idea for the museum and provided full funding for the project.
In the evening, our partners and friends, including the members of Lithuania’s Jewish communities, gathered to celebrate the museum’s birthday. It was an evening filled with conversations, memories, and meaningful encounters – a chance to reflect on the journey so far and look ahead to the future.
A special thank you goes to Artūras Anusauskas and Boris Kirzner, who helped make the celebration even more memorable with their wonderful music.
The two birthday days passed in a blink, but their warmth and energy will stay with us for a long time.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, visited the museum, shared stories, and celebrated this milestone with us!
